Clinical experience:

• I currently work as a clinical lead SLT in a community neuro-rehabilitation team. We see people with progressive and non-progressive neurological disorders, providing assessment and intervention as a multidisciplinary team
• I have been working as a SLT with patients who have neurological disorders within the NHS for the last 16 years. I have largely working in a community setting, but also have experience working in an acute and inpatient rehabilitation setting. I work in a joint clinical and leadership capacity, providing professional supervision and line management supervision to SLTs and other multidisciplinary colleagues
• I have had a previous role working as a visiting clinical tutor at City, University of London
• Themes from my clinical experience include:
  • Community Neurorehabilitation for people with progressive and non-progressive conditions
  • Interdisciplinary goal setting and outcome measurement
  • Specialism in aphasia rehabilitation, particularly participation or project-based therapies and communication partner training
  • Providing assessment and intervention for people with deteriorating conditions, particularly Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis and Dementia
  • Leadership and managing change within small and larger multidisciplinary teams
  • Research in area of participation-based aphasia rehabilitation
  • Projects involving increasing awareness of Cognitive Communication Disorders amongst rehabilitation colleagues
  • Providing individualised professional supervision to SLT colleagues

Description of supervision approach:

I am a firm believer in supervision that suits the person. I strive to tailor supervision to the person’s clinical needs, style and approach. I am practised in providing a more joint problem-solving approach or reflective style, all used flexibly depending on the person’s needs and the direction of discussion. I will spend time exploring previous supervision experiences and approaches, those which have worked and those which have not worked, to enable us to agree on a style that feels comfortable. I will encourage you to set the agenda and explore clinical experiences using active listening, reflections and supportive questioning. I can bring in clinical examples from my experience where appropriate and with consent from the supervisee.

I continue to engage in professional and line management supervision, and I am committed to continued reflection about my own skills and development.
