HubbardEmma
Profession:
Speech and Language Therapist
Location:
South West London
Experience, training and membership:
My experience includes:
- Line Management Supervision to B7 SLTs across three Level 1 neurorehabilitation services and an acute TBI service
- Professional Supervision (ranging from SLTAs to B7)
- Peer supervision (in various contexts)
- Professional support for allied health professionals and volunteers
- Supervision of students in Practice Education role
My roles have involved working within teams experiencing significant organisational change, including service development and restructuring. This has strengthened my understanding of the distinct purposes of professional and line management supervision, alongside the importance of supervision during periods of uncertainty.
In my NHS Band 8 role, I worked with the wider management team to set up a new service. I managed and supervised the SLT team working across this service and other services impacted by this change. My training in supervision helped me to advocate for the wider interdisciplinary team and ensure supervision (including peer supervision) was prioritised to help everyone navigate the changes.
Training:
- Supervision Courses 1-3 (Intandem, 2024-2025)
- Reclaiming Hope (Ahead Together Conference, 2025)
- Leadership Development for Senior Clinical Leaders (ICE Creates Programme, 2023)
- Resilience and Wellbeing for SLTs (City Lit, 2020)
- Counselling Skills for SLTs (City Lit, 2018)
- MSc Speech and Language Therapy (2010)
- BSc Psychology (2007)
Membership:
I am a member of RCSLT, HCPC, ASLTIP, ABICEN, BAS, Aphasia Therapy CEN and UK PPA SLT network.
I am committed to continuing to enhance my supervision skills to ensure I offer high quality supervision. I will continue to access and embrace varied supervision opportunities myself, reflect regularly on my sessions as supervisee and supervisor, utilise supervision theory and creative approaches, join further training and apply other relevant learning to my supervisor role.
Description of supervision approach:
I offer a flexible, non-judgemental, compassionate, nurturing and reflective space for you to bring and develop your thoughts. I welcome you to use the space to discuss challenges and celebrate successes. The content of each session will evolve from what you share.
I will support you to challenge yourself, develop your ideas and identify meaningful actions using active listening, reflection, intentional comments and curious questioning.
I enjoy providing supervision and feel passionate about high quality supervision. I recognise the ongoing benefit I gain from my own varied supervision in terms of advancing my clinical skills, developing my career and also in protecting my well-being.
Our supervision will begin with us taking time to set up our supervisory relationship and forming a contract together. I will ask you to share any hopes and ideas you have regarding the supervision process. I will then regularly invite you to share reflections and feedback regarding your supervision. This will ensure we can plan collaboratively and develop approaches that fit with your preferences, needs and style.
I aim to help you leave every session feeling refreshed, empowered and motivated in your work.
